The Sacred Journey book provides a unique experience of the Holy Land for the interested Bible student whether within the ancient walls of Jerusalem, or the four walls of one's own study. The innovative approach combines the scope of a concordance; the detail of a Bible dictionary; the perspective of an atlas; the adventure of a travelogue; and the inspiration of a devotional book. There is nothing in print quite like it! Within The Sacred Journey you will explore over 325 Scripture passages, excavate over 80 sacred sites and walk with over 70 saints who are heroes of the faith. Included are over 130 colored pictures of biblical sites.
The 100 page study guide is confined to the Land of biblical Israel which is conveniently divided into eight geographical areas:
Upper Galilee Region
Sea of Galilee Region
Jezreel Valley Region
Jordan River Valley Region
Central Mountain Ridge Region
Coastal Plain Region
Jerusalem Region
Southern Judah Region.
Each of these strategic areas of the biblical Promised Land is introduced by a prominent biblical personality whose life drama was largely played out on that specific geographical stage. The eight different “heroes of the faith” serve as tour guides to familiarize the reader with his particular region of the Land of Promise. Interestingly, each individual represents a distinctly different role from Israel’s spiritual history. The following will serve as your guides:
John the Disciple . . . Upper Galilee;
Peter the Apostle . . . Sea of Galilee;
Elijah the Prophet . . . Jezreel Valley;
Joshua the General . . . Jordan River Valley;
Samuel the Prophet . . . Central Mountain Ridge;
David the King . . . Coastal Plain;
Jesus the Messiah . . . Jerusalem;
Abraham the Patriarch . . . Southern Judah.
Each site will be identified, located and its distinguishing features and relevant characteristics discussed. A truth is drawn from the biblical history played out at each site and a challenging application offered for the modern day pilgrim. A survey of the biblical references in Scripture is also provided for each site.
Not all who read these pages will be privileged to walk where Jesus walked, but through the power of the Holy Spirit each of us can walk as He walked—in utter obedience to His Father—as we learn the sacred truths afforded to those who take The Sacred Journey and encounter the Living God through the pages of holy Scripture.
For those using this guide as a supplement to their devotional reading of Scripture, it is recommended to highlight the geographical references in the Scripture reading and then refer to the in-depth treatment of that sacred site and its corresponding inspirational message found in The Sacred Journey.
For those blessed with the opportunity to actually go on pilgrimage to the Holy Land, The Sacred Journey will deeply enrich the pilgrim’s experience and help bring the full impact of the panoramic history of the land of the Bible and the God who made it His treasured possession and promise. By using your daily itinerary for the tour, you can use those sites to access the sacred stories and saints of the Bible associated with that site. In addition to the marvelous stops that make up your tour itinerary which you will experience as an eye-witness, The Sacred Journey allows you to explore additional sites that are geographically connected to the areas of your tour. So whether on site or just with insight, I extend to you the divine invitation first received by the Patriarch Abraham, “Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you” (Genesis 13:17).
